I recently spoke to a gentleman while waiting in line at my local homebrew supply shop. He was getting his son set up with everything he'd need to start brewing and we got to talking. I've talked to many people about what I think is the best part of homebrewing. There are a lots of things that I love about homebrewing and have given many different answers over the years. Among the things that I really do love about the homebrewing process are:

After you've been brewing for a little while it's normal to want to try special brews. This might be a barleywine, or mead, or cider or a big Belgian ale. When I started to brew I would plan what I was making a few weeks in advance. I'd pick a style that I'd like to try and buy the ingredients (usually online) and I'd brew the weekend after those ingredients came in. It was a pretty good system.
